NEW FEATURE – a search bar for tag words

We’re super excited to announce that we’re introducing a brand new feature on The Book Cover Designer – a search bar for tags!

Our catalog with pre-made book covers currently stores more than 6,000 ebook and paperback/hardcover book covers designed by hundreds of vendors. Each cover is submitted into up to 4 various genre categories from a total of 17 genre categories, which makes browsing for that one special best-selling cover a bit slow. Thus, we have decided to finally introduce the search bar – something not only designers, but also authors have been suggesting for a while. You can find the new search bar located on the side bar of the catalog with pre-made covers – it’s right between the Genres and Featured Artists tabs.

The search bar allows you to easily navigate through the thousands of pre-made book covers when you’re looking for something particular. For example, if you want to browse for covers with red-haired models, you can simply search for the “redhead” or “red hair” tag. If you’re looking for that perfect Fantasy-slash-Romance cover, try out the “paranormal romance” tag – you get the idea. The search bar will help you navigate easily through the thousands of book covers and will help you find the perfect cover for your next book.

HOW TO SELL MORE COVERS – Your Ultimate Guide

How To Sell More Covers – Your Ultimate Guide

How to become a best-selling cover designer on The Book Cover Designer website?

We know you want to start selling more covers on the website and making more profits through your creations. That’s why we’ve put together a guide that will help you become a best-selling designer.

  1.    Step one: Quality over Quantity

It may sound like a cliché, but when your clients (authors or publishing houses) look for a cover, they don’t want to see a portfolio filled with hundreds of pre-made book covers. They want to see quality covers and they won’t care if you have 30 or 50 pre-mades on your page, as long as the final results are outstanding. Don’t upload tons of covers at once hoping they will get sold faster because their number is high. Submit the creations you’re satisfied with and aim higher with each new book cover.

  1.    Step two: Avoid being too specific

If you have a concept for your cover, which includes tons of specific elements, you’re lowering your chances of getting your cover sold. What does this mean? For example, if you design a cover that has a romantic couple on it, many authors and publishing houses will be looking forward to buying it. However, if the cover includes the couple, as well as several other people, a background that shows a big city landmark and similar additional elements, you will be lowering the chances for a client to be searching for the exact same concept that you had in mind when you designed your cover. The less specific and less “overcrowded” a cover is, the faster it will get sold.

  1.    Step three: Submit in the right category

Always submit your book covers in the right categories. This way when a client is browsing through his/her ideal category, he/she will find your cover easily.

  1.    Step four: Pay attention to typography

Designing the images for your covers is your main focus as a book cover designer, but don’t underestimate the effect a nice typography has. Pay attention to the fonts you want to use, their style, colors and effects. They will represent the author’s name and book title, which means they have to be eye-catching and bring the reader’s attention, as well as the author’s one.

  1.    Step five: Be creative

Creativity is what authors and publishing houses are looking for. They want something fresh that will make the books stand out. Be creative when designing your book covers and they will grab your potential clients’ attention.

  1.    Step six: Promote your covers

Use social media, forums, and other websites to promote your own work. If you have a Twitter account, follows us so that we can feature your name and a link to your profile in the daily cover updates we post in order to promote our designers. Use your personal and professional social media accounts to insert links to your designer page on The Book Cover Designer website and don’t be shy about displaying your book covers.

You can follow us on Twitter: @TheBkCvrDesignr and Facebook: The Book Cover Designer

  1.    Step seven: Don’t forget to have fun

Being a book cover designer can bring you a sufficient amount of income, especially if your covers are selling fast. Regardless of your current success on our website, don’t forget to have fun while coming up with new designs for book covers. It will show in the final results!

ATTENTION, BOOK COVER DESIGNERS!

We here at The Book Cover Designer aim to provide the best marketplace so that you can sell your awesome book covers on your own terms and conditions, on your own prices, and most of all – on a user-friendly interface. Which is exactly why we would like to share with you a little secret we’ve learned about your customers.

In recent years the Dystopia genre grew much larger than we could have ever imagined. Blockbuster movie franchises and TV shows like The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner, Iron Man, The Colony, Oblivion, The Walking Dead, The 100, and so on have sparked an interest towards audiences of all ages, which in turn, has sparked the interest of many authors. Tons of up and coming, already acclaimed or even newbie writers are trying to break into the Dystopia genre, which is why we need more Dystopia/ Post-Apocalyptic/ Disaster book covers on the website.

We have gathered a small collection of the most vivid pre-made Dystopia book covers on our website (check the attached image featuring 10 book covers). We need more covers like these! If you’re interested in rebranding your style or if you’re secretly a Dystopia fan, this is your chance to show off your new designs!

P. S.: As always, it will take up to 72 hours for us to review your submissions. In case you have submitted more than a few covers at once, we will approve them in batches of 4 or 5 so that our front page won’t be overloaded by only one designer’s creations.

Book Cover Image Size Updates

Hello everyone!

A few days ago we introduced a small update to the website’s submissions page. As of now, each time you upload an image, which is larger than 1800px by 1800px, our system will automatically resize the image so that it won’t be bigger than 1800px by length. We know that you want to upload bigger images to that your clients can see your book covers in better detail. However, we felt like we had to introduce this update so that this way our hosting will provide more storage space for even more awesome book covers. Don’t worry, when the system resizes your images it won’t lower their resolution or quality.

New Dashboard

UPDATE: There are too many bugs/quirks/niggles with this release so I’m reverting back to the old dashboard for now. Hopefully I can get them sorted within the next few months. Sorry!

Hi guys,

This is a big update to the existing vendor dashboard. I wanted to cover some of the biggest changes here.

One of the biggest is that to add products you now go to Products > Add Product and everything is on the front end. The fields are the same that you’re used to. Title, product description, short product description. Fill these in as usual. Basically everything is the same for adding products, just hopefully easier to use. NOTE: I know the way you select categories here is not ideal, but we will add checkboxes soon.

Also, please do not select more than 3 categories. If you do it only makes navigating that much harder.

There are lots of things for you fill out on the Settings tab! Like your Store Description (you can grab your old one from https://thebookcoverdesigner.com/vendors/your-store-name), your Single product page description (this shows up under the Seller Info tab on every product page).

Under Settings you can also add your PayPal address.

An important new tab under Settings is called Branding. Please please please add a Store Banner (suggested size: 700 x 150. Although you can make it bigger if you want). You can also add a Store Icon – think of it like a logo or avatar.

There is one last tab under Settings called Social where you can add your social media links if you want.

I think the rest of it is pretty self-explanatory, but there’ll be lots of tweaks coming in the next few weeks!

Feedback welcome.

Charlie

Site Move Complete

Hi,

Over the past 48 hours or so you may have noticed some issues with the site. This was due to us having to move the site to a new server. This necessitated some downtime as well as a period during which designers couldn’t upload covers (to avoid losing data). I’m pleased to report however that the transfer is now complete, and all functionality is back to normal.

Designers can upload covers and the site should be accessible to everyone.

If you notice any issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me on charlie[at]thebookcoverdesigner.com

We made the move because we were running out of space on our old server and also sometimes it was a little slow. The new server has much higher specs and we can scale as necessary to accommodate more traffic/covers. So hopefully we won’t have to move again!

Welcome to all the new cover artists

I just wanted to write something quickly to say how grateful and excited I am by how many cover designers we now have offering premade book covers through The Book Cover Designer. I should probably mention the number: it’s nine. Maybe ten would have been a better milestone to celebrate, but I haven’t posted an update for a while, so.

We have a greater diversity of designs than ever. We’ve got digital illustrations, fantasy, horror…you name it, we’ve got it! So thank you, cover artists, for your hard work and dedication to your craft. I look forward to continuing working with you.

PS Look out for a site re-design soon! One is long overdue, don’t you think? I want the focus to be much on the covers. But more on that next time!

With best wishes,
Charlie Livingston

Introducing Book Covers Marketplace

UPDATE: We are not going to be continuing with Book Covers Marketplace. Cover artists from all over the world will be be able to sell their premade covers here at The Book Cover Designer instead.

I’m excited to announce the launch of Book Covers Marketplace, a site which will make it easier for cover designers to sell their premades and for authors to find the premades that are right for their books.

Here’s how:

  • It will be a central place for book covers, and because they will all be in place, they will be easier to find. Authors won’t have to visit lots of different websites to search for premades.
  • It makes purchasing covers a snip. Checkout in a couple of clicks.
  • Cover artists can list their own covers, a bit like listing items for sale on eBay. This makes it easier for cover designers to get their work out there.

If you have any questions or feedback about the new site, I’d love to hear it!

Yours
Charlie
